Sam de Brito had a post in the Herald today about older people listening to new music.   Quote:

“You’re not putting that shit on,” says the 40-something office worker, should the uppity new girl dare to move the same dial away from the stagnant warm latitudes of his easy-listening, no-repeat Club Med.

What can they teach a bloke like me? With my Super and my investment properties, my new Holden and bag of golf clubs that’s price could feed an African village?

Who knows?

Who knows what MGMT will say to you or Sufjan Stevens may whisper one night?

Who knows what kink The Presets could iron out, what generational bias the Arcade Fire or TV on the Radio might melt?

Who knows what you’ll hear in the noise of Ladyhawke, Klaxons, Van She or Chk, Chk, Chk because it’ll be different for everyone.

Who knows what you’ll get from Lykke Li or Jay Z but I’ll tell you this, you’ll never know if you never just … listen.

When did Lykke Li get all popular?  When did she get to be in the same sentence as Jay Z?

Please, PLEASE tell me I get credit for being on the bandwagon very early with this one…  I mean, I was listening to her wa-ay back at the start of the year.  And was mercilessly mocked for it.  And now everyone’s going around singing “I’m Good, I’m Gone” and I’m going to miss her gig ’cause I’ll be in CHina, unless I win the Inauguration trip.

PS Go Sufjan!

please tell me you are not being serious with your comment about getting credit for being on the bandwagon…

On an unrelated note, I always knew that jay chou was a bit of a poser, though I think I know why Taiwan seems to have more psycho girlfriends per capita than anywhere else when they have ‘role models’ like Jolin to look up to… and the bloody media propagates the stereotype! Scary.

Hey, everyone needs a little credit every now and then. Especially after everyone MOCKED me for listening to Little Bit about 15,000 times. Haha, who is mocking now…

You’re weird. No offence Erin, I am not doubting your abilities, but you really are a different breed… that is all.

(Sorry for the Taiwan-gossip-magazine-fuelled-rant, it came up in ‘possibly related posts’ and I was procrastinating)
