I recently purchased of copy of Elizabeth Taylor’s A Game of Hide and Seek. It was republished by the Little Brown Book Group, as part of their Modern Classics series. This is why:
I couldn’t not have something that beautiful on my bookshelf. Surprisingly, though, the book was truly wonderful. I’d never heard of it, or the author, but it was a lovely story, and the way the writer occasionally intruded into the thoughts of characters was utterly captivating. It was a truly compelling read. Not a big story, but one that is both beautiful and well-told.
See: on occasion, judging a book by its cover turns out just fine.
