Ok, so earlier I mentioned that I saw Catching Hope on the Obamain30seconds website. It was a video made by Rider Strong, who played Shawn Hunter on the television show that defined my teenage years, Boy Meets World
“When this boys meets wo-orld, boy meets world,
walkin’ down this road that we call liiiife,
is what we’re doing..”
(Theme song moment over, I promise).
Anyway, so after I saw that video, I decided to myspace-message Rider Strong (who I, in a fit of nostalgia, added as a friend a while back- prescient, perhaps?)
This is what I wrote:
I was voting in Obama in 30 seconds- having no clue about your entry- when Catching Hope was randomly selected. I’d already given if 5 stars before I realised that it was yours.
It’s amazing. I’ve sent the link to everyone I can think of.
The very next day, when I logged on to my MySpace and had the following reply:
Thanks so much, that’s awesome!
We had a lot of fun making them…don’t think we’re likely going to win (we went more for humor than real campaign info) but it’s nice to get feedback. Well, you never know, right?
I then sent the following message to my best friend:
—————– Original Message —————–
Date: 25 Apr 2008, 08:05 AM
(etc etc etc)
But the best moment? Without a doubt, that was Megan’s reply:
OH MY GOODNESS
OH MY GOODNESS
OH MY GOODNESS!! no kidding, this is far far better than when Jude mailed you back. OH MY GOODNESS.
Before we met, a LONG time ago now (more than ten years 😮 Isn’t that scary?!) Megan had a rather significant teen crush on Rider Strong. Suffice to say, that short note fulfilled all our teen fantasies.
All that’s left is buying a drink from Adam Banks. More on that later… 😉
