The long-awaited return of…. SUFJAN LOVE OF THE WEEK

That’s right, loyal readers, it’s back! From your not-so-loyal blogger, it’s SUFJAN LOVE OF THE WEEK.
This week, because I don’t believe I have ever mentioned it before (which is genuinely shocking), I present you with the greatest of all Sufjan tunes, which is tuneful and meaningful AND samples The Cure.  Honestly, you CANNOT DO BETTER.  Behold, the great Come On! Feel The Illinoise!

Please note, this song has two parts. The first part is in the wonderful and memorable 5/4 time, and tells the tale of the Chicago Worlds Fair.  The second, which begins at about 2:25, includes the following lyrics, which cry out to every aspiring writer/artist who ever pretended they had talent… Naturally, I include myself in that, but unlike the rest of them, I really do have talent.

“I cried myself to sleep last night
And the ghost of Carl, he approached my window
I was hypnotized, I was asked
To improvise
On the attitude, the regret
Of a thousand centuries of death

Even with the heart of terror and the superstitious wearer
I am riding all alone
I am writing all alone

Even in my best condition, counting all the superstition
I am riding all alone
I am running all alone

And we laughed at the beatitudes of a thousand lines
We were asked at the attitudes
They reminded us of death

Even with the rest belated, everything is antiquated
Are you writing from the heart?
Are you writing from the heart?

Even in his heart the Devil has to know the water level
Are you writing from the heart?
Are you writing from the heart?

And I cried myself to sleep last night
For the Earth, and materials, they may sound just right to me

Even with the rest belated, everything is antiquated
Are you writing from the heart?
Are you writing from the heart?

Even in his heart the Devil has to know the water level
Are you writing from the heart?
Are you writing from the heart”

*You do get, by this point in reading my blog, that I’m taking the piss, right?  Oh, please tell me that isn’t lost on you…
